Some Art Shows

I’ve been busy this Spring and Summer, showing art in several shows. Much to my surprise, my art was accepted in several local shows and even resulted in several sales! Turns out people like orcas.

It started in February, with my third acceptance into the Redmond Community Center Show for January - May 2026. I had three little Orca mixed media creations accepted. Much to my surprise, three days into the show, someone asked if they could buy them! However, they wanted them as a Valentine’s gift for a girlfriend, and the show required the art to hang until May. No problem, I whipped out three custom dupes in a hurry and handed them over in a QFC parking lot in the dark right before the big day. (The originals hung until May and are still for sale).

In April, I had two larger mixed media Orcas accepted into the Seattle Japanese Cultural Festival! I created two paintings of the rare white albino orcas sighted off Hokkaido in 2024. The use of washi tape (Japanese tape) and the subject matter I think appealed to the committee. These didn’t sell, but the placement of the art and the venue itself wasn’t great in the Armory. Still, it was flattering to be accepted.

In May, I had two more orca mixed media pieces accepted into the Federal Way Arts Explosion show, and these sold! The show coordinator was so kind to take pictures for me, as Federal Way is quite far from my home.

In June, I had one more orca piece accepted into the Edmonds Arts Festival, which is one of the bigger arts festivals in the area, and I was thrilled to have a piece accepted. Even more thrilling—this one sold too! Maybe I’m not pricing these high enough. :)

In July, we take a different turn— no more orcas. Instead, I submitted my first digital art piece to Redmond’s America 250 poster contest as part of its Derby Days celebration, and it was accepted! The poster was displayed with 5 other acceptees in front of City Hall.

Whew! I have three more orcas submitted to the city of Snoqualmie for a show with them; and am waiting another juried show that is national. Then I might take a break to focus on my badly neglected Etsy store.
